Don Ramón
Eladia Blázquez
Don Ramón
Don Ramón
was a bard
from the tavern
half wise
half poet
Don Ramón
played his accordion
and made it sing.
He was the soul
of that haunt
of supportive ghosts,
Don Ramón
filled the heart
of the bar.
But at dawn,
when the wine
forgot the forgetfulness,
Don Ramón
played the waltz that a fatal
love inspired him...
One, two, three...
His eyes cried
every time
everyone sang, sang,
sang
the chorus of his song...
And on the fourteenth
of February,
amid the sounds
of bolero,
Don Ramón
felt his accordion
fall silent.
Embraced
by silence
he instantly
fell to the ground,
Don Ramón
melted with his accordion
he died.
And the bells tolled
for the bard
of the tavern,
Don Ramón
left like that love
that betrayed him.
Never again
the sad joy
of that waltz
that everyone asked for, asked for,
asked for Don Ramón to play.
