Lud Session #4: Morrer de Viver / Saudade Daquilo / Tô Querendo Mais / Sem Filtro / Embrasa (feat. IZA)
LUDMILLA
When Two Music Giants Meet, 'Lud Session #4' Emerges
'Lud Session' is an acoustic project by singer LUDMILLA that combines several famous songs in a single track. This medley format debuted in 2021 and has already featured other major Brazilian artists such as Xamã, Gloria Groove, and Luísa Sonza. This time, #4 features one of the biggest voices in Brazilian R&B, singer IZA, as well as the hits 'Morrer de Viver', 'Saudade Daquilo', 'Tô Querendo Mais', 'Sem Filtro' and 'Embrasa'.
Throughout the songs, the themes vary, but we notice that the common theme is the intensity of relationships, sometimes without commitment, in which pleasure and physical connection are the central elements. Right from the start, the songs describe an ardent and desired encounter, where both partners give themselves to the moment without worrying about the consequences or the future. In 'Morrer de Viver', for example, repeating phrases like 'quer sacanagem' and 'morrer de viver' reinforces living the present to the full, without emotional ties.
The collaboration between LUD and IZA brings an innovative and extremely bold dynamic to this 'Lud Session'. Together, the voices and styles of the two singers demonstrate the best of the fusion between R&B, a musical genre that originated in the United States, with elements of Brazilian music, combining rhythms and harmonies. Their collaboration was long awaited by fans and came at a very special time for IZA: in June 2024, when the song was released, the singer was pregnant with her first child, Nala.
The intimate music video also shows how important the year 2024 was for LUD: we see the band members in harmony in the background, as well as a small television showing the singer at Coachella. This performance was historic because she became the first Afro-Latina woman to perform on the festival's main stage. Another significant moment in the clip is the picture frame, also in the background, showing LUD meeting Beyoncé, which perfectly represents the term Black Excellence, i.e. black artists at the top of their game.
About this long-awaited feat, LUD said: "The Lud Session is an innovative project, where we revisit songs with a new arrangement, a new look. People like to hear old things and I loved singing these songs that are so important in our career (...) and having the opportunity to have IZA take part in this project was incredible, especially as she is pregnant with Nala. Together, we were able to give new life to these songs that we love so much, as well as celebrate our friendship and passion for music."
