Fear Of The Unknown
Peyton McMahon
I dream of taking to the skies
And trying on a different life
I tell myself I'll go the distance if I'm asked
But I can only run with an escape hatch
I'm watching people pass me as the voice is creeping in
Saying: You would never make it in the end
Who knows what's even out there
Stay safe here on the ground
But deep down in my soul I really know
That the fear of the unknown
It's making me fall short of what I could be
And it's the places I don't go
Where everyone I know is waiting there for me
Someday I'll finally see
I'm my own worst enemy
I decorate these prison walls
Pretend I'm happy with it all
Familiarity is comfortable, they say
At least until your world it turns to grey
I'm watching people pass me as the voice is creeping in
But deep down in my soul I really know
That the fear of the unknown
It's making me fall short of what I could be
And it's the places I don't go
Where everyone I know is waiting there for me
Someday I'll finally see
I'm my own worst enemy
And I don't know why
I run away from what I can't deny
I don't know why
I stay in all the places I can hide
My inner child is screaming louder each and every day
I can't keep pushing down
These monsters that I'm running from
I kinda hope they take me to the ground
The fear of the unknown
It's making me fall short of what I could be
And it's the places I don't go
Where everybody that I know is waiting there for me
Someday I'll finally see
I'm my own worst enemy (enemy)
Someday I'll finally see
I'm my own worst enemy
