Life in the Trenches
In battles our path it brought,
Where only the song of bullets rang,
We didn't know, when we left back then,
Who could someday return.
This life in the trenches
Is for us just a command of fate,
And perhaps the destination of our journey
Is to disappear into the chaos of war.
When night arrives on the fields of battles,
Silence reigns in the trenches at night.
The heads of weary soldiers now bow,
In their pits, men can now peacefully doze off for a moment.
When day turned into night,
Came a brief moment of rest.
Everyone has drifted off to sleep,
Where the fire offers warmth.
I only remember you,
I still see a tear on your cheek,
If I were to stay on the battlefield
Your image would be the last.
A man alone only reminisces while awake,
And thoughts wander far back home.
Surely now mother is still awake there,
Sighing and praying for her beloved child.
