Lode À Una Simpatica Zitella
A Filetta
Ode to a Charming Young Lady
This is a text by the pampasgiolu poet, revised a few months before his death, in which he praises the qualities of a young girl he honors. This young girl is none other than Geneviève Geronimi, who will become the mother of Jean-Luc Geronimi, who performs these praises here.
As a token of friendship
I feel I must do my duty
Giving proof of honesty
Speaking the honest truth
For you, bright shining star
I dedicate my knowledge
It’s not for an excuse
If I make this claim
Know well that my muse
Is all that she desires
To spread everywhere
Your warm, fiery flame
You deserve to be praised
And to have all the honors
You, the beloved queen
Of all the great lords
You deserve to receive
Today the finest flowers
Your character is golden
Perfect is your persona
Among young ladies, you’re a jewel
The patron of dignity
Of honor and respect
You wear the crown
You are beautiful and graceful
And rich in charm
The day you get married
Blessed will be that man
Who picks your flower
And puts a ring on your hand
I’m happy, believe me
For your satisfaction
And I’m more than sure
I’ll have the chance
To embrace you once more
Tenderly and with affection
