O Ipê E O Prisioneiro ( Ipê Florido )
Abel e Caim
The Ipê and the Prisoner (Blooming Ipê)
When many years ago I was imprisoned in this cold cell
From the second floor of the penitentiary down the street I could see
When a gardener planted an ipê and as the days went by
It grew and came to life while I suffered
My blooming ipê
Next to my cell
Today it reaches
My window's height
Only one difference
Exists between us now
Here inside the nights
No longer have dawn
How much brightness you have out there
I see a parasitic vine embracing you tightly on your trunk
While it hugs you, it sucks your sap, leading you to death
That's how it was with me, it embraced me then betrayed me
That's why I killed it and now I only have its company
My blooming ipê
Next to my cell
Today it reaches
My window's height
Only one difference
Exists between us now
Here inside the nights
No longer have dawn
How much brightness you have out there
