Apaga o Fogo Mané
Adoniran Barbosa
Turn off the Fire, Mané
Inez left saying she was going to buy a wick
For the lamp
You can wait for me, Mané
I'll be back soon
I lit the stove, put the water to heat
And went to the gate
Just to see Inez arrive
Night fell and she didn't return
I went out on the street like crazy
To find out what happened
I searched at the Central
I searched at the Hospital and in jail
I walked the whole city
And I didn't find Inez
I came back home too sad
What Inez did to me is unforgivable
And on the floor right by the stove
I found a paper written like this
You can turn off the fire, Mané, I'm not coming back
You can turn off the fire, Mané, I'm not coming back
