Honor Gaucho
Agustin Magaldi
Honor Gaucho
Beneath the pain of that deep wound
With which the unfaithful has killed her hope
And with no law... The law of her dagger
That will quench her thirst for revenge;
She looked at the rival who was her own brother
And in the light of cruel disillusionment
She could take no more!... And in a deadly challenge
She showed the man, already bare, his knife.
(Spoken)
And with no judge but her honor,
After a fierce duel,
She left lying on the ground
That treacherous brother.
The countryman bent down in pain
Over the lifeless body of his rival
And upon noticing that this wound wasn’t fatal
He looked to the sky in gratitude;
And the unworthy one, filled with terror
Approached, crying, next to the being
Who fell for her, and for her deceitful ways
Under the steel of honor.
Fatal woman!... Said the proud countryman,
I should punish you too,
But maybe... Maybe if I live,
I’ll come back to collect that debt from you;
And if I leave without punishing your shame
It’s because I know that man needs
You to heal him... With the infinite tenderness
That kissed him when I arrived at the ranch.
(Spoken)
He remained as if pondering
His lost illusions
And while two big tears
Carved lines on his face...
