Sen Bu Şiiri Okurken
Ahmet Selçuk İlkan
While You Read This Poem
Poem:
While you read this poem
I will have already left this city
Now you will no longer hear my longings like a knife wound
Nor will your phones ring at midnight
I will leave this city, leaving you to yourself and me to a mental hospital
After all, I couldn't reach you anyway
After all, I couldn't even touch the edge of your lips
For some reason, all dead ends became my address
And for some reason, you turned all the red lights on me
No matter what I did, I couldn't be a wound to you
Here I am leaving your life
Here I am leaving you to yourself
Now my compass is longing, my clock is loneliness
And the calendars show me your absence
What can you do, a traveler on the road
Maybe from now on, maybe after you
This rebellious heart may become a man
Learn its lesson from this love
And not venture into seas bigger than itself again
Song:
Who knows in how many dreams you are
You, the heir of tales in a dream
You, with a pirate heart in ambush
I will be on the roads
And I will forget you
Poem:
Tomorrow at this time, I will be on the roads
Who knows in how many dreams you are
The heir of tales in a dream
And of course, your pirate heart is still in ambush
Yet, for the first time, you won't hear my voice
Your complaints will be ownerless, your questions unanswered
Maybe for the first time, my absence will gnaw at you
An unknown fear will envelop you
And for the first time, you will reckon with yourself
What happened, what is happening, what will happen
Then one eye blind
One ear deaf, one foot broken
One arm severed, you will fall on the roads
In other words, incomplete from head to toe
All walls will collapse on you
Maybe for the first time, thinking 'I was forgotten'
Your heart will ache
And while you read this poem
Our separation will have already begun
Perhaps your only solace, your final solace
Will be this last poem I wrote for you
Never forget
All cities sleep, Istanbul never sleeps
And one day all lovers will forget you
But this poet's heart will never forget
