El Farol de Una Calle Cualquiera

The Streetlight on Any Street
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
sees so many people pass...
some chewing on their hate...
others loving, behind...
some who are powerful
and others who are just nothing.
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
sees so many people pass...
some laughing out loud,
others just laughing...
some who squeeze their souls,
so they don’t break down and cry.
To the streetlight on any street,
from any city,
I’d like to ask:
"Why do men, sometimes,
without stopping to think,
throw stones and snuff out
their metal heart?".
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
could answer me
that: "Everywhere there are men
who try to extinguish
the light that shines brightest
to guide them through the dark".
I’ve also thrown my stone
to the streetlight on any street.
Many are the guilty ones and sometimes,
few feel any shame.
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
sees so many people pass,
some selling love...
others going to buy...
some carry colors
and others, loneliness.
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
sees so many people pass...
a drunk singing...
just singing for the hell of it...
and another drunk who has
so much to forget.
I’ve also sung my song
to the streetlight on any street.
I too got lost in a drink,
trying to burn away a sorrow.
The streetlight on any street,
from any city,
sees so many things pass...
Things that belong to the people,
people who are just that...
Some arrive and stay
and others arrive and leave.
