Mala Suerte Con El Ruano
Alberto Danza
Bad Luck with the Ruano
My good friend Sampayo
Here I write this letter to you
And with sadness I tell you
That your horse has died
I reckon he was killed by lightning
In the last storm
I didn't see anything strange
No wounds, he wasn't swollen
I just found him lying
Near the wire fence
You'll have to forgive me
If I hurriedly left
I took off the boots
On the spot and without thinking
I started to rub them
And from what I can see
Even if you don't want to believe
I assure you Sampayo
That by May 25th
You'll be able to wear them
Don't think it was easy
To go in and cut the Ruano
Although I'm an experienced man
My knife started to tremble
Near some peach trees
I finished burying him
I just wanted to save him
From the dogs, the vultures
And the greed of some pig
That usually escapes me
I know that what you've lost
Will sadden you greatly
Because your horse in my view
Was one of the chosen
Remember I was a witness
When you started to tame him
I knew how to break him in
The day you rode him
What a ride he had
It's not something to forget
The day you prefer
Come see my herds
Which, without being wonderful
You can choose whichever you want
The mare is a dark bay
The rest are colored
And it's a pretty even bunch
I recommend you come and choose
And you'll come back well mounted
And now I bid you farewell
Sampayo until God wills
The gate is open
To receive a friend
Don't forget about me
And come without delay
I'm hopeful with the expectation
Of seeing your countryman look
With a hug awaits you
Your partner Alberto Danza
