Orgulloso Y Cimarrón
Alberto Danza
Proud and Wild
To sing what I feel
Here they have me planted
I'm a bit stirred up
Seeing so much suffering
Man has become an instrument
Doesn't distinguish right from wrong
Sells his conscience for less than a dime
And wanders rough in life
Belly in any slum
I'm a battered owl
That as soon as threatened, flies
And as soon as I heard his guitar
I saw it was well tuned
His manly, well-toned voice
Shows that he knows how to sing
The pampas fit in his chest
And although the man is very modest
It's clear he has well placed
That which birds have
The man can be down
Perhaps half naked
The whole and gallant
Never ends up sold
Like a pursued tiger
He faces fate head-on
When it's time to stand strong
Only the coward chokes
But when a free man stands
Neither death takes him
With that bold figure
And that very genuine accent
To defend the Argentine
It's clear he has plenty of guts
The man is for the guitar
Like a carter for the whip
He sings well, a pleasure to hear
And believe me, I don't doubt it
Even the hands, the shield
Will be let go to applaud him
My song won't be applauded
By the resurrected louse
Or the bewildered lackey
Who gets scared hearing it
But I know he must feel it
To the root of his blood
He who, bursting through wire
Went into immensity
And paid for his freedom
With the dignity of hunger
Flourish
His singing is more piercing
Than an awl of a saddler
I felt a cold first
And then a warmth
Wow, what a singer
Damn, he moved me
And although I'm a bit choked up
I still give him this flourish
Because it's been years since I've seen
A singer so well planted
Let whoever has a voice sing
But never out of convenience
For if his knowledge is genuine
The singing will come out better
Dressed as some doctor
Go the coward and the scoundrel
They trade for fame and money
Even their own woman
And in the end they end up
Fertilizer for the ground
You'll find few flowers
In my peasant song
But I bring in my hands
Loads of sorrows
Let others sing splendors
To please the boss
I wasn't born to suck up
Or be anyone's lackey
I live freer than the air
Proud and wild
