June
I know it's June, the crazy and gray June
With its dark and musty hood
The arrows that passed with the wind
Whizzing through the night, on the roof
I know it's June!
I know it's June, this slow clock
This slug dagger, this pointer,
This bat around the lamp
And the lead of an old thought
I know it's June, the clay of these hours
The scream of these skies, oh, of pre-dawns
And these cisterns, shadow, gray, south
And these deep, crystalline aquariums
Where mute boys will drown
Among little blue jellyfish
I know it's June!
