Es Todo
Alejandro Filio
It's Everything
The afternoon, the dawn, two words, some hands
that let go, your gaze and a goodbye;
the rain, my silence, your memories, some steps
that move away and this love that ended.
It's all I can remember
from that farewell, that ending.
The people walking, a thousand mirrors on the ground,
some church and cold around me.
A tree that complains, two doves getting wet
an old man walking, a clock,
the moon peeking out as the sun agonizes,
a couple kissing, a vendor.
It's all I can remember
from that farewell, that ending.
Something telling me that this time it's forever
and this rain accompanying my pain.
Your body fading among the bursting drops,
the smell of wetness, a gale,
the leaves following you as if asking you to return
but it's clear this time you won't listen.
It's all I can remember
from that farewell, that ending.
And while everything rains, I walk away and wonder
if I'll ever manage to forget you.
