Verses to Compadre Juan Miguel
(Chamarrita)
To Compadre Juan Miguel,
they don't pay him his wage
and even if there's nothing to eat,
he still has to work.
Poor Compadre Miguel,
the life he's been dealt with.
All day long he spends
working without complaining,
for a few sips of cane
the poor Compadre Juan.
Poor Compadre Miguel,
the life he's been dealt with.
Like a hairy cave,
Miguel's fate;
what a dog's destiny his
that nobody remembers him.
Poor Compadre Miguel,
the life he's been dealt with.
The doctor and the commissioner
always talk to him about the law,
that one must respect others'
even if there's nothing to eat.
Poor Compadre Miguel,
the life he's been dealt with.
Juan Miguel has resigned
to live among the rice,
as long as there's cane and mate
one must thank God.
Poor Compadre Miguel,
the life he's been dealt with.
But one day it will come
that this will end,
and the luck of the compadre
will change for his good,
when these verses are sung
by the rice field workers!
