El corazón de mi pueblo
Alfredo Zitarrosa
The Heart of My Town
(Milonga)
The heart of my town
has a destiny of clouds,
it's fog that bursts into rain
and a stream that rises to the sky,
multiplied freshness
to quench the thirsty,
dew hanging in verses
on the profiles of the wind;
my town laughs, my town sings,
all towns in its throat.
The heart of my town
is a fragrant rose,
it's a plow at dawn,
strength and life everywhere,
it's a torch of suns,
it's the clay of the potters,
it's the artisanal patience
of the bricklayer and the blacksmith;
my town fights, my town waits,
all towns in its flag.
My town laughs, my town sings,
all towns in its throat,
my town fights, my town waits,
all towns in its flag.
