Tanta vida en cuatro versos
Alfredo Zitarrosa
So Much Life in Four Verses
"One was dying for me,
I'm dying for you,
You're dying for another;
What a world so upside down."
Verses with wisdom,
that I found along the way,
so much life in four verses,
I thought to myself.
At the door of my house
I planted three little trees,
I planted a faith, a hope
and a 'I will never forget you'.
But I have also planted,
because I know you're cautious,
an upside-down heart
and a flower that says: forget.
Verses like bakers,
like clouds, like that
blackbird that sang gently
on the banks of Arapey.
I am an old tararira,
seeking the deepest,
man needs cleverness
to live in the world.
But he also needs,
and the verse doesn't say it,
a woman companion,
a song when sad.
Courage can do everything,
you must trust yourself,
and what courage can't do*
hope can.
Verses that are like a poncho
on a wintry road
and, to the lost in this world,
a spring water.
* Alfredo Zitarrosa says 'what courage can't do'.
