After a long journey, suitcase in hand, feeling drained
Having been kicked out, beaten down
Maybe threatened, due to a state issue
From his homeland, he was exiled
For being accused, for feeling rejected
A human being asking the world for a hand
Indifference and arrogance, that’s nothing new
The airport, the border
Immigration, coyotes, and the coast guard too
Even street thieves waiting for someone to show up
And without a direction at all
Anyone would lose their mind out there

Without papers, without a job
But it is what it is, gotta fight because fate brought me here
Getting up to speed on gin and amnesty laws
And realizing they’re not kings and don’t treat you like they should
With images of a sad past
A poorly paid job and refugee status
And it’s clear this isn’t my territory
I’m looking for someone to stand by me, and what do I find? - hate!
It’s another empire, my salary is low
And that index and the comments become daily bread
I’m here because I have to flee
It’s harder to start over and not be able to build
Thinking sadly of family, of home
Of the neighborhood, of the place, and that you can’t go back
From the bottom up, between streets and avenues
Between aid, police, and the United Nations
Between words of suicides, between stories of homicides
I see it’s just another case, that’s what my life is called now
And the way out is to stay and show them
That I come from a land of greatness and I carry it in my blood

After a bitter drink, knowing it’s a long road ahead
That several want to kill him, to board the first boat
West coast, Africans leave, dark-skinned all the time
In search of a better life or escaping from torment
Several days at sea waiting for that moment
To be able to float and gaze at the sky
The first thing they encounter is immigration law
Either convince them with your case or back to your nation
Those who made it arrived and found something different
The people, the atmosphere, you can feel the frequent racism
Imprudent
That leaves you impatient, powerless, it’s normal
Like the hostile police acts
And being a victim of social abuse
And cultural uprooting, without money and without help, everything closes in
Never take a step back, fight the war
And that bad taste of not knowing about your land
And that spirit of strength that clings to the present
Some, for their reasons, ended up confused
In the streets of thugs, committing crimes
Responding with gunfire, proving they’re alive
Just like everyone else, they also lose their cool
And the reason? What? Hunger doesn’t wait
And in such a situation, anyone can snap
In this world, this sphere
While many suffer, many enjoy their sadness
While few have it all, many live in poverty
And it reflects that we are savages by nature
