Like Oxen
Being good, in my opinion.
Is the most straightforward,
and reconciles duty.
With those who pass by
almost gruff.
With the one who comes to me,
tender and humane.
I find reason, in the sad and the insane.
Let it burst,
my robust thinking.
And instead of seeking what is most just,
I team up with another, like oxen,
and I am his brother.
Without getting into Moses
with new laws,
to the one who asks for bread
I give bread and stew.
And the honor of saving the whole world,
I leave it to the geniuses and the kings.
Like oxen I do,
I say again.
