La Adelita

La Adelita
At the top of the steep mountain range
A regiment was camped
And a brave girl followed them
Madly in love with the sergeant
Popular among the troops was Adelita
The woman the sergeant idolized
Because besides being brave, she was beautiful
And even the colonel respected her
For he knew what was said
By the one who loved her so much
Adelita is the name of the young girl
Whom I love and cannot forget
In the world, I have a rose
That with time, I will pick
If Adelita wanted to be my girlfriend
And if Adelita were my wife
I would buy her a silk dress
To take her dancing at the barracks
One night as the escort returned
Leading the sergeant among their ranks
In the voice of a sobbing woman
The prayer was heard in the camp
Upon hearing it, the fearful sergeant
Of losing his beloved forever
Hiding his emotion under the hood
Sang to his beloved in this way
And it was heard what he said
The one who loved her so much
If Adelita went with another
I would follow her trail without ceasing
If by sea, on a warship
If by land, on a military train
I am a soldier and the homeland calls me
To the fields where I must fight
Adelita, Adelita of my soul
Don't, for God's sake, forget me
And after a cruel battle ended
And the troops left their camp
Due to the casualties caused by the gunfire
The regiment returned greatly diminished
The sergeant remembering his loves
The soldiers returning from war
Rekindling their love for other women
Sang this war hymn
And it was heard what he said
The one who loved her so much
And if I die in battle
And my body remains in the field
Adelita, I beg you by God
To shed tears for me with your eyes
Sound the bugle for battle
Let the brave warrior go to fight
The streams of blood will flow
May a tyrant never rule
For if Adelita wanted to be my girlfriend
And if Adelita were my wife
I would buy her a silk dress
To take her dancing at the barracks
