Nocturnos de La Ventana
Ana Belén
Nocturnal by The Window
At the pond a water girl
Has died today.
She's outside the pond,
Wrapped on the ground.
From her head to her thighs
A fish crosses her, calling her.
The wind says 'girl'
But can't wake her up.
The pond releases
Its algae hair
And to the air its gray breasts
Shaken by frogs.
God save you. We will pray
To our lady of water
For the pond girl
Dead under the apples.
I will then place by her side
Two small pumpkins
So she can stay afloat,
Oh! over the salty sea.
