El Oso

The Bear
I used to live
in the forest very happy
I walked, I walked
without stopping
The mornings
and the afternoons were mine
to the night
I lay down to rest
But one day,
the man came with his cages
he locked me up,
and took me to the city
In the circus
they taught me tricks
and I lost
my beloved freedom
"Settle for it" -an old tiger told me-
"never the roof
or the food will be lacking,
they only demand that we do the tricks
and we can make the kids happy"
4 years have passed
in this life
with the circus
I traveled the world like this
But I could never
forget everything,
my forest, my afternoons
and mine
In a remote little town
someone unlocked the padlock for me
it was a moonless night
and I left the city
Now I step
on the ground of my forest
once again the green
of freedom
I am old
but the afternoons are mine
I return to the forest
I am truly happy
