Corrido del 73
Ángel Parra
Ballad of '73'
A treacherous general
broke the constitution.
The people were unarmed
and that's why they didn't fight.
Fifty thousand are the dead
in the first four months,
not counting, of course,
those who just disappear.
And the one who ruled us
fell fighting bravely,
they bombarded him with cannons,
they wanted him dead.
With shrapnel in hand
and a helmet for protection,
he faced the war head-on,
the brave Salvador.
From this inhumane slaughter
we'll learn a lesson:
With traitorous soldiers
I won't do the draft.
Three years have passed
since this unmatched betrayal,
and if we're not united
another three will go by.
And with this, I say goodbye,
I'm leaving with my sorrows.
Let's all fight united
against four generals!
