Coplas de Um Gaúcho Brasileiro
Ângelo Franco
Songs of a Brazilian Gaucho
This burden that I carry in my way
Comes from my heart, drunk on ideals
I’m from a people forged in fire and steel
Holding strong in southern Brazil
My steady eyes don’t show bitterness,
'Cause the hardships are just trials to face
If I laugh a little when I do, I’m sincere
I know what I want; I wasn’t born for illusions
With each day that Brazil grows older
I reveal myself more as a gaucho and Brazilian
It’s a shame that the country’s eyes sometimes cloud
And see us more as foreigners
It’s true we’re not just bystanders
To those who stand still, crying in misery
Latin blood, a heart from rough land
Our fight is for work and honest folks
Our truths have nationalist reasons
Like activists for regional culture
We no longer preach any separation
Revolution is lending a hand to your equal
So I say to every Brazilian
We are gauchos, proud of our nation
I just ask you not to forget Rio Grande
'Cause we still have Brazil in our hearts
