Barrio de Tango
Anibal Troilo
Tango Neighborhood
A piece of neighborhood, there in Pompeya,
falling asleep by the embankment.
A lantern swinging on the barrier
and the mystery of goodbye that the train sows.
A dog barking at the moon.
Love hidden behind a gate.
And the toads drumming in the lagoon
and in the distance the voice of the bandoneon.
Tango neighborhood, moon and mystery,
distant streets, how will they be!
Old friends that I don't even remember today,
what have they become, where are they!
Tango neighborhood, what happened to that,
Juana, the blonde, that I loved so much.
Does she know that I suffer, thinking of her,
since the afternoon I left her!
Tango neighborhood, moon and mystery,
from memory I see you again!
A chorus of whistles over there on the corner.
The elbow filling the store.
And the drama of the pale neighbor
who never went out to watch the train.
That's how I recall your nights, tango neighborhood,
with the carts entering the yard
and the moon splashing on the mud
and in the distance the voice of the bandoneon.
