Notte Prima Degli Esami
Antonello Venditti
Night Before Exams
I remember four guys with guitars
And a piano on their shoulders
Like the pines of Rome, life doesn't break them
This night is still ours
But how do secretaries with glasses get married to lawyers
The bombs at six don't hurt
It's just the day that dies
The exams are close and you are too far from my room
Your father looks like Dante and your brother like Ariosto
Tonight at the usual place the moon looks strange
Maybe because I haven't seen you in a week
If only I had taken you before the maturity exam
My hands on your chest
Your mystery is dense
And your original sin like your American pants
Please don't stop my hands, on your tense thighs
Closed like the churches when you want to confess
Night before exams, night of police
Surely someone took you away
Night of moms and dads with a bottle in hand
Night of grandmothers at the window
But this night is still ours, night of young actors of cold pizzas and pants
Night of dreams of cups and champions
Night of tears and prayers... Math will never be my job!
And the planes fly high between New York and Moscow But this night is still ours
Claudia don't tremble, I can't hurt you If love is love
The lights come on here on stage but so many friends around That makes you want to sing
Maybe changed, certainly a bit different But still with the desire to change
If love is love
