La Pioggia
Antonello Venditti
The Rain
The tanks with their lights off in the night under the rain
have left strange marks on the asphalt filled with sand.
The president behind the foggy glass smokes his pipe
he's only thinking about the workers out in the rain.
They're coming from afar with the future in hand under the rain
like the night in Bethlehem, they've counted new stars under the rain.
On the other side of the street, a dove has stopped like a statue
casting a glance at the sky that looks black from down here, under the rain.
Under the rain, the heart beats strong
but the rain doesn't soak us
and two kids with their love
are searching for hope
under the rain.
They're warming
that dove.
And little by little, it will fly over nations and cities, under the rain,
over oceans and flags, above the big smokestacks, under the rain.
On the other side of the street, the last sword has broken inside the rock
on my hands, I read the sky like a rainbow reflection under the rain.
Under the rain, the heart beats strong
but the rain doesn't soak us.
The two kids are already looking at the sun
and the evening is a hope
under the rain.
Under the rain.
Under the rain.
Under the rain.
Under the rain.
Under the rain.
