El Forastero

The Outsider
Gonna saddle up my horse 'cause I'm leaving this town
Nobody here likes me 'cause I'm an outsider, feeling down
Carrying sadness in my soul, a hangover from the plains
Only thing that soothes it is distance and the old chains
No boss to hold me back, no rain or thunderstorm
No debts to anyone, no little kids to conform
I'll head back to Barinas on my trusty horse
Ask an harpist to play a beautiful tune, of course
'Cause a guava-soaked cowboy sings real good, no remorse
They say there's a party where my friends gather 'round
Horse races and cockfights, excitement abound
Got a rooster to bet on, a swift horse to be found
Those are the requirements to lay my money down
I'll duel with anyone, face to face, word for word
Dance to harp and bandola, shout out loud, be heard
Fearless of opponents 'cause I don't know fear
Had a beautiful home, now it's all disappeared
Became a poor adventurer, life's path unclear
That's why in these fields, they call me the outsider
