La Recuperada
Arbolito
The Recovered
The morning has a different smell,
because the alarm clock rings,
and I go to the factory
painted by the sun
I remember the days of yesterday,
only ten of us remained,
six months without pay
and the boss is nowhere to be seen.
And one day it was enough,
the black man said 'Enough,
we'll take over this plant
let what it gives us be ours'
And I return to the factory,
I return to believe.
I am a worker without a boss,
May this fever become law.
The debts it left us
God didn't want to pay,
and between gatherings and odd jobs
the money piled up.
They sent patrols to us
trying to evict us,
and we all stayed
several nights enduring.
Because the neighborhood moved
hope grew,
like a wild little flower
our hearts opened.
And I return to the factory
I return to believe.
I am a worker without a boss
may this fever become law.
