Desde La Calle 33

Ricardo Arjona Ricardo Arjona

From 33rd Street

I was born in a cheap neighborhood
I was a neighbor of a bakery
My best toy was a cat
Its meow inspired melodies.

I grew up on 33rd Street
And there was a bit of everything
Men who died from stress,
Widows, transvestites, crazies.

It was a gray world
The color was painted by your desire to live more, I was happy
Dreams didn't aim beyond the nose, I wanted to be a firefighter at Company 26.

One day I met school
And due to lack of enthusiasm
I met my first sorrows
And wore the donkey's ears.

But I learned to read
And with that, my desire to know increased
I met Borges, Márquez, and also Mr. Vidal, and a morning paper told me that Vietnam existed.

From 33rd Street
Where there was no law
Stories without direction are born
From the simple to the profound.

From 33rd Street
From 33rd Street
Where there was no law
A guitar was my name
And it pointed my way.

I tried my first beer
And at 12, my first cigarette
I became a man next to a princess in the back of a car.

While drugs
Were for my friends the new mischief, I was flying in my room catching muses in my score, I found the path
That brought me here.
