La Marcha Nupcial

The Wedding March
Real drama is this that in verse I recall
When hearing the strains of the wedding march,
While Cupid cries over a bag of gold,
A soul sees its sentimental faith vanish.
Dreams drowned in clumsy ambition,
Triumph of gold over the heart!
I saw you leave the temple with your brand-new husband,
Wrapped in the chords of the wedding march.
A glow of happiness illuminated your face,
You walked with the grace of a queen...
Around me, people commented on your beauty.
I felt my wounded chest tremble with emotion...
My head was spinning.
And it was the anguish of the heart!
Sweet time that is in the distance!
So many oaths! So many illusions!
Your words, your laughter, your fragrance.
Castles of hope swept away by the wind!
I was poor... a dreamer... drunk on the moon...
(I couldn't offer you more than my tenderness)
You weighed your beauty on a scale
And another's money weighed more.
In secret tears, my reproaches drown,
Hearing the homage of the wedding march...
I watched your car leave, disappearing into the night...
And I fled with my sorrow... deep loneliness...
The echo of the march delved into the deepest depths,
Sounded with the rhythm of a requiem... over the corpse of my heart.
