Cuatro Milpas

Four Cornfields
Four cornfields are all that remain
of the little ranch that was mine, ay yai yai yai!
of that little white and pretty house
how sad it is.
The palm trees cry for its absence,
the lagoon dried up, ay yai yai yai!
the wire fence that was in the yard
collapsed too.
Will you lend me your eyes, brunette
I carry them in my soul, let them look over there
at the remains of that little house
so white and pretty, how sad it is.
(speaking) oh, how it hurts today
The pastures are without cattle
everything has ended, ay yai yai yai!
and there are no more doves, nor flowers, nor scents,
everything is over.
Four cornfields that I loved so much
because my mother took care of them, ay yai yai yai!
the workers have all left
they left and no one remained.
And that's why I'm sad and alone,
that's why I get very sad and cry
remembering the happy afternoons
that we both spent in that place.
