Romance de Barco Y Junco
Arturo Gatica
Romance of Boat and Reed
The reed of the riverbank
and the double reed of the water,
in the land of a pond,
where the day got wet.
The reed of the riverbank
and the double reed of the water,
where inversely flew
doves with inverse wings.
The pond was an ocean,
for my pirate ship:
my ship that in the afternoons,
anchored to a star.
My ship of a poor child,
that they brought me for Easter
and that today sails this romance,
with orange sails.
To the river of the town, one day,
I took my pirate ship,
I left it anchored on the shore,
to make it a cove.
But the current called it,
with its water telegraph
and it fled painting the evening,
with orange letters.
Two tears tore me,
the desolate cheeks,
on the deck of the ship,
my childhood went away crying.
