Por Una Cabeza
Astor Piazzolla
By a Head
By a head of a noble colt
who just loosens up at the finish line
and upon returning seems to say:
Don't forget, brother, you know, don't play...
By a head, a one-day infatuation,
of that flirtatious and smiling woman
who, while swearing with a smile, the love she's lying about
burns all my desire in a bonfire.
By a head
all the craziness
her kissing mouth
erases the sadness,
soothes the bitterness.
By a head
if she forgets me
what does it matter to lose myself,
a thousand times life
why live...
How many disappointments, by a head,
I swore a thousand times not to insist again
but if a glance wounds me as I pass by,
her fiery mouth, once again, I want to kiss.
Enough of races, the gambling is over,
I won't see a close finish again,
but if some horse becomes a sure bet on Sunday,
I'll bet everything, what can I do.
