Canción de Los Horneros
Atahualpa Yupanqui
Song of the Ovenbirds
(Song)
On the ridge of my ranch
Two ovenbirds nested
And I look like a stranger
And the ranch looks like theirs
In alone, out alone
I always just come and go
I find them together in the field
And the field seems to be theirs
Together they work and sing
And tweet they do it happily
I don't know if they look at me
With pity or with contempt
They don't even get scared when I pass by
As if I were a dog
That neither hinders nor harms
And they let him walk free
So I live on my ranch
Since I only see myself
Before, the nest was different
And the world seemed ours
Pray to God, little ovenbird
Don't let the same thing happen to you!
