Memoria para El Olvido
Atahualpa Yupanqui
Memory for Forgetfulness
Singing is not only
Fervor that is determined
It's also a thirst that leans
To drink from the stream
It's a smiling petal
And a rocky prayer
Ember of dream and passion
That sinking into everything
Unearths a joyful
News from the heart
If the barn manifests
Its pregnancy, if the orchard offers
The euphoria that supplies it
With shade and fruits in celebration
If the alfalfa lays down
Its brightness in a pile
I can gather the color
Of a tired smile
And feel with my eyes
The scar of sweat
Things make sense
If the singing that summons them
Carries buried in the mouth
The taste of a beloved memory
The tree that happened
Endures in its brightness
If the lumberjack's axe
Turned its flesh into wood
The carpenter's hand
Adorns its greenery
Whoever sings must ignite
In the wakefulness their eyes
And find in the stubble
The noise of blooming
Everything boils down to having
Memory for forgetfulness
And throw to the unknown
The passage of habit
Leopards of sweetness
And turtledoves of roaring
