Si Lima Pudiera Hablar
Augusto Polo Campos
If Lima Could Speak
If Lima could speak
I would ask its sky
To turn into a handkerchief
To start dancing
The bars like guitars
The doors like a box drum
It would dance a traditional dance
With its Peruvian flag
The window and the balcony
The little lanterns would be
Looks from beautiful eyes
The streets would smile
With their little red carnations
And when dawn comes
When the drone is not heard
The Rímac River would sleep
Lulled by the breeze
Of a Creole song
If Lima could speak
I would ask its sky
To turn into a handkerchief
To start dancing
