Todo Lo Contrario
Luis Eduardo Aute
Everything to the Contrary
It happens to me some night
When I sink into stress
That I chase a brown cat
And catch it by the feet
And I count each paw
Forward and backward
And no matter how many I count
They don't add up to more than three
And that's how it is
Neither yes nor no
Neither your me, nor my me
Neither two without three
Neither struggle nor harmony
Of opposites
But
Everything to the contrary
As you see
It happens to me frequently
Nine times out of ten
That I split into three halves
Instantly and at once
One plays the part
And another plays the judge
And there's still another whole part
That doesn't play chess
And that's how it is
Neither yes nor no
Neither your me, nor my me
Neither two without three
Neither struggle nor harmony
Of opposites
But
Everything to the contrary
As you see
It happens to me almost always
When the light goes out
That great doubt assails me
Do I go heads or tails?
And instead of pretending to be blind
Or emulating the ostrich
I prepare to be the eye
That lit the Andalusian dog
And that's how it is
Neither yes nor no
Neither your me, nor my me
Neither two without three
Neither struggle nor harmony
Of opposites
But
Everything to the contrary
As you see
