As Mentiras da Verdade

Azagaia Azagaia

The Lies of Truth

And if I told you
That Samora was assassinated
By people from the government who still pretend to be looking for the culprit
And that it was all planned
So it would seem like an accident and the case would be quickly covered up

And if I told you
That Anibalzinho is just a puppet
Who didn't escape from Machava but was set free
By the same judicial system that has sentenced him
And it's most likely that he will now be eliminated

And if I told you
That Siba-Siba
Poor thing, was a victim
Of the murderous gang
That killed Cardoso on the avenue
Not Anibal and his team
Condemned by the media
But the same ones who left
Pedro Langa lifeless

And if I told you
That Mozambique is not as poor as it seems
That the statistics are false
And there's someone getting rich
With money from the IMF, WHO, and UNICEF
Then makes the people believe
That the economy is not growing

And if I told you
That the opposition
In this country has no hope
Because the people have been taught to fear change

But what if I told you
That the opposition and the government are no different
They all eat from the same plate
And everything is as they want

And if I told you
That the Cahora Bassa dam is not ours
It belongs to a handful of people who will fill their pockets

And if I told you that there are newspapers
That fabricate information
To sell more paper and gain promotion
And that they are the same ones who sell us
That image of chaos
Turning simple sheep into bad wolves

And if I told you
That there are compromised television channels
Aligned with the government and only cover approved topics
That these news programs have all been sold
You only see what they want
And they want your smiles

And if I told you
That AIDS in Mozambique is a business
NGOs see the government as a partner

Because not everything they say is true (it's true)
Because not everything they don't say is not true (it's true)
They make you think you know (but you don't)
Beware of the lies of truth (it's true)

If I told you
That the history you study has lies
That your brain is washed with every good grade you get
That the revolution was not only made with songs and cheers
There was betrayal, torture, and hidden versions

And if I told you
That former combatants live on memories
They gave their lives for the homeland and the government only tells them stories
How many nowadays would give half of what they gave?
In the name of Mozambique, not even those you elected

And if I told you
That the laissez-faire attitude still exists
See the corrupt playing at trying to stop each other
Anti-corruption commissions created by corrupt individuals
Bribing each other to multiply profits

And if I told you
That the announced job openings already have owners
We queue on the roads without even suspecting
That half of the positions belong to bribery schemes
Universities are bought, what the hell are we?

And if I told you
That your engineering degree is not for today
While a hundred economists graduate, only two engineers do
University dorms overflowing with people
Check the red marks and the indifferent teachers

And if I told you
That in this country, foreigners are in charge
They have the job and salary they want, they still rule
A handful of nationals on the streets
It's neocolonialism in its rawest form

And if I told you
That the color of your skin matters a lot
The lighter it is, the more doors open, it's absurd
The selection criteria for employment
You go to companies like banks and don't find a single black person

And if I told you
That the republic's police force is a joke
They're skinny, without posture, and sell themselves for a coin
Now they kill each other, betrayal in the force
After all, who is the police, who is the thief?

And if I told you
That there are banks financing political parties
And suddenly they appear with empty coffers

Because not everything they say is true (it's true)
Because not everything they don't say is not true (it's true)
They make you think you know (but you don't)
Beware of the lies of truth (it's true)

Because not everything they say is true (it's true)
Because not everything they don't say is not true (it's true)
They make you think you know (but you don't)
Beware of the lies of truth (it's true)

Because not everything they say is true (it's true)
Because not everything they don't say is not true (it's true)
They make you think you know (but you don't)
Beware of the lies of truth (it's true)

Because not everything they say is true (it's true)
Because not everything they don't say is not true (it's true)
They make you think you know (but you don't)
Beware of the lies of truth (it's true)
