O Ciclo da Censura
Azagaia
The Cycle of Censorship
You are a family man, you wake up early in a tie
Ready to swallow another frog at your job
And you don't betray the family, you swallow that dish dry
You are trained to fear the employer who pays you
So you don't speak, you just work
You take the blame for all faults
You receive in return some crumbs
And as a sign of gratitude when they humiliate you, you stay silent
Even if you know your worth, your fear paralyzes you
And your concern trivializes once again
If you work for the state, loyalty is required
Party membership card or the situation complicates
But that party is not your party, you just want to take advantage
You shout: Long live the party! But with a broken heart
You arrive home and bring the same dictatorship
No talking about subjects that are subject to censorship
Your order is unquestionable, yes, and your children comply
Fear and silence are the values they nurture from an early age
Son, you do in secret what dad forbids but doesn't say why
And in the fathers' conversations, your opinion is not called, be quiet!
There's no room for what's been bothering you
You're censored like they censor your father
But you don't know that and the TV distracts you!
Who said there's freedom of expression in this country?
I tried to speak, but they silenced the voice of my heart
There is yes, there is no, or it's yes or it's no
Tell me, are we or are we not the seed of this nation?
Someone imposed that you have to go to school
So you wake up in the morning and grab your bag
But you're not interested in the class, and you can't wait
For the bell to ring so you can play ball
Meanwhile, you learn to fear the teacher
And to everything he says you respond: Yes, sir
He's like your father, everything he says is an order
That everyone follows when they can and when they can't
Who doesn't learn is punished, so you pretend you learned
You just want to pass to show the test at home
And you grow up programmed without understanding the program
You're programmed to obey those who program
And you go from primary school to pre-university
Limited by what the teacher writes in the summary
They don't teach you to think, they give you everything thought out
You just have to memorize by heart
And you grow up obedient doing what's convenient
They call you undisciplined if you act differently
And you learn to humiliate yourself for what is rightfully yours
Health, education, protection, and respect
You learn that the State only does you a favor
When it offers you a hospital, transportation, a teacher
You learn that the police oppress more than protect
And treat you as guilty until you prove you're not
You learn that freedom only exists in the dictionary
You're free only as far as your monetary power goes
You learn to complain less and obey more
That you only survive if you work less and steal more
Who said there's freedom of expression in this country?
I tried to speak, but they silenced the voice of my heart
There is yes, there is no, or it's yes or it's no
Tell me, are we or are we not the seed of this nation?
Now you're a university student
First day of classes and you feel your heart beating
And the teacher introduces himself
Says you're a student and a student is recommended
To investigate on your own and you who used to copy
Now the difficulty you face becomes obvious
You went from being a student to a student in a flash
But you grab the pencil, study, and work miracles
The miracle of understanding without anyone explaining
You have a teacher who claims to know, but can't explain
Who misses weeks in a row, then comes with a test
And this is not high school, they don't sell the test
You have a semester's worth of material given in a few weeks
And the exams are around the corner, not even weeks away
Because in the other weeks they make money at ISCTEM
Or at ISPU and they don't care about UP and UEM
No one complains because the teachers set you up
And you do a five-year course in ten years, mpfana!
So you brush off the scum, and it doesn't bother you
You do the course in record time and luckily you get
A job in the State, you get the position early in the State
And you already know its game, you were trained for it
Now that you have your position and you quickly join the scheme
Long live the party! You adhere to the motto
You cover up cases, hide information from the press
You say everything is under control when the situation is tense
And when the promotion comes, the cycle continues and goes on
You treat your subordinates as they treated your father
