O Menino Da Canoa
Barrerito
The Boy in the Canoe
In a small town
Lived a couple with great joy
After a year of being married
A beautiful little boy was born into their home
Every night that child
Crying so much, his father couldn't sleep
On a certain day at dawn
That man tried to commit
A cowardly act against his own son
To get rid of the innocent child
His cruel father acted in this way
He made a canoe and engraved his name
Put the child in and set it afloat on the river
In a distant place, the canoe landed
The child crying was heard by a fisherman
That man, full of hope
Trying to save that child
Urgently took him to his home
There that innocent child lived
Who was found in those waters
In the company of the fisherman
He became a very honorable man
He graduated in law from a university
Earning a lawyer's diploma
In his office, he kept the canoe
That had the name of a person
That had been engraved on it long ago
One day arriving at his office
A strange man felt emotion
Seeing the canoe and his name engraved
He quickly said, 'I ask for forgiveness'
'You are my son, the boy in the canoe'
'I am your father, receive my blessing'
Saying 'forgive me, my dear son'
There on his knees, very repentant
He died of remorse, holding his hand
