La terre tournera sans nous
Alain Barrière
The Earth Will Turn Without Us
What were we hoping for, what do we believe?
The earth will turn without us.
Without our craziness, our wild dreams,
And without this world that’s ending.
What do we believe, what were we hoping for?
Love doesn’t owe us anything at all.
And for others just like us,
Love fades away, love doesn’t care.
Why always dream endlessly?
Other suns, other mornings.
A winter isn’t a spring,
We’re not giants
Who can mock time.
Why dream of other lives?
Why dream of symphonies?
One day, I believe, we must
Stick to the melody.
One day, decide on our life.
What do we believe, what did we want?
Misfortune has struck us down.
There’s nothing left at all
Of this kingdom that was ours.
Yet it wasn’t so crazy,
This happiness was truly ours.
We should have held onto it, that’s all,
Just for us, just for us.
What do we believe, what were we hoping for?
Love doesn’t owe us anything at all.
And for others just like us,
The earth turns, it will turn without us.
The earth turns, it will turn without us.
