A la claire fontaine
Béart Guy
By the Clear Fountain
By the clear fountain,
As I went for a stroll
I found the water so lovely
That I jumped right in
It's been a long time since I loved you
I'll never forget you
Under the leaves of an oak,
I dried myself off
On the highest branch,
A nightingale sang
Sing, nightingale, sing,
You who have a cheerful heart
You have a heart for laughter,
While mine's filled with tears
I lost my friend,
Without deserving it
For a bouquet of roses,
That I turned down
I wish the rose,
Were still on the bush
And that my sweet friend
Still loved me back
