When I didn't have the teary gaze
That I carry and possess today
When I sweetened my tears and my sleep
With the sugarcane juice from the mill
When I conquered this world of my God
Making my own path
Through the rows of green corn
That sways, longing for the green sea
I was happy like a river
An animal, a flock of sparrows
Like a rooster, when there were
When there were roosters, nights, and backyards
But the dark time came and forcefully
Did to me the harm that force always does
I'm not happy, but I'm not silent
