Gente da Minha Terra

Belmonte e Amaraí Belmonte e Amaraí

People from My Land

I paid so much tribute to the countryside
And to the kind-hearted worker
The verses I wrote were recorded by colleagues
And spread throughout Brazil
And the longing for my land
Became an anthem in the voice of my people
Because those who left their beloved land
Although achieving success in life
There is no one who does not want to see it again

Who forgets the countryside, the waterfall
The lake, the forest, fishing with a hook
The cattle grazing the grass of the shortcut
Drenched in dew, shining in the sun
And the kindness of those people
Who offer everyone the same warmth
I also like city life
And I know that happiness exists
But it must be a child of the countryside

At country dances I always sang
Someone who loved me would cry for me
Then I would dance in the big yard
Feeling the scent of jasmine flowers
And even today I still feel
That perfume lingering in the air
It makes me relive the happy youth
It's the perfume of sweet nostalgia
That nothing in the world can erase

The life of people is almost a mystery
The struggle of the mind is almost in vain
What is now seen as shipwrecked
Might be nothing in our tomorrow
And the longing for my land
Is in my soul and in all of my being
On the stage of life I keep working
But when I feel the curtain closing
It's in my land that I want to die
