Emmenez-Moi
Benjamin Clementine
Take Me Away
To the docks where the weight and boredom
Bend my back
They arrive with heavy bellies
Loaded with fruits, the boats
They come from the ends of the earth
Bringing with them
Wandering ideas
Reflected in blue skies
Of mirages
Dragging a spicy scent
From unknown lands
And eternal summers
Where we live almost naked
On the beaches
Me, who has known all my life
Only the northern sky
I’d like to wash away this gray
By changing my course
Take me away to the ends of the earth
Take me to the land of wonders
It seems to me that misery
Would be less painful in the sun
In the bars at dusk
With the sailors
When we talk about girls and love
A drink in hand
I lose track of things
And suddenly my thoughts
Lift me up and drop me
A wonderful summer
On the shore
Where I see love stretching its arms
Like a madman
Running towards me
And I hang on tight
To my dream
When the bars close, and the sailors
Head back to their ships
I still dream until morning
Standing on the dock
Take me away to the ends of the earth
Take me to the land of wonders
It seems to me that misery
Would be less painful in the sun
One fine day on a creaky old boat
From the hull to the deck
To leave, I’d work in
The coal hold
Taking the road that leads
To my childhood dreams
On distant islands
Where nothing matters
But living
Where languid girls
Steal your heart
By braiding, I’ve been told
These flower necklaces
That intoxicate
I’d run away leaving my past behind
Without any regrets
Without baggage and with a free heart
Singing out loud
Take me away to the ends of the earth
Take me to the land of wonders
It seems to me that misery
Would be less painful in the sun
