Liebeslied
Bodo Wartke
Love Song
I wanna sing it for you in every language,
bring it to life on every instrument:
I love you.
I want to sing it for you and I want to play it
on every instrument 'cause that's my way to say,
hey baby, it is true, I love you!
I wanna sing for you in all the languages,
play for you on all the instruments
while I say I love you.
Wherever you may live,
I know for sure that you exist,
the woman I fall for
and who falls for me.
Wherever you may live,
whatever language you speak,
when we meet,
I'll learn it for you.
I'd like to sing it in all languages with you,
play it on all instruments for you, croon.
Now I really know: I love you.
Yes, when you hear something like that, you think: Man, the Dutch must be having a blast! I would spontaneously react with: 'Yeah, I love you too, but don't say that to me again!' I don't know... Do we have any Dutch people here tonight? Not that I put my foot in it... Refrain!
Wherever you may live,
I know for sure that you exist,
the woman I fall for
and who falls for me.
Wherever you may live,
whatever language you speak,
when we meet,
I'll learn it for you.
I'll send this melody to you
I'll play it on every instrument, oh!
More than anyone, I love you.
I'd play it on all the instruments
because I try to tell you what I feel, without lament:
I love you, I die for you...
I want to share it in every language with you,
play it on every instrument for you, trill.
Now I really know: I love you.
Yeah, if you hear something like that, you think: Man, the Dutch must be having a blast!
Wherever you may live, baby,
for you I'd immediately
travel to the end of this world!
I give you my word.
I sang this final refrain to my roommate in Berlin recently. I asked her: 'Don't you find this a bit cheesy or pathetic?', and she said: 'No, no, no, it's great.', while wiping away tears of emotion from the corner of her eye. And then I thought: Cool! and then played it for my good friend a day later and said: 'Here, look, my new love song. What do you think?', and he said: 'That's totally cheesy and pathetic! Man, you can't do that, travel to the end of the world! Who's gonna pay for that? You? Be a bit realistic!' At his insistence, I then revised the song as follows:
Wherever you may live,
it's best if you come here
and first learn my language.
It's not that hard.
Maybe you already know it.
Well, then everything would be clear.
Why wander far away?
The good is so close.
