Steine
Bosse
Stones
I dig in the rubble with both hands
My fingers numb, my eyes burning
Building mountains out of pain and questions
Let them bury me underneath!
I go with the hammer into rugged rocks
No breaks, must roll years
Cut holes in the fear, in my conscience
First chunks are from childhood and missing
And then I sit on the bed and eat stones
Yours, mine, big, small
Bite my teeth out when I crush them
I think, that's the only way it passes
And so I sit on the bed and eat stones
Old, heavy, sharp, fine
Until I'm done, leave me alone
I think, that's the only way it passes
Stone by stone
Stone by stone
Then down into the deep, into the dark shaft
Where the candle goes out and yet I continue
Even if down here the bird no longer sings
I'll bring tons of rubble up
And then I squat in the rubble, dig with both hands
What if my hands suddenly found yours?
What if my hands suddenly found yours?
What if we found each other among the stones?
And then I sit on the bed and eat stones
Yours, mine, big, small
Bite my teeth out when I crush them
I think, that's the only way it passes
And so I sit on the bed and eat stones
Old, heavy, sharp, fine
Until I'm done, leave me alone
I think, that's the only way it passes
Stone by stone
Stone by stone
And eventually
Between the last stones
A first shine
A first gleam
Of new life, new light
And then I sit on the bed and eat stones
Yours, mine, big, small
Bite my teeth out when I crush them
I think, that's the only way it passes
And so I sit on the bed and eat stones
Old, heavy, sharp, fine
Until I'm done, leave me alone
I think, that's the only way it passes
Stone by stone
Stone by stone
Stone by stone
Stone by stone
