Sì Dolce E' Il Tormento
Angelo Branduardi
So Sweet Is the Torment
So sweet is the torment that dwells in my heart
That I live content for cruel beauty
In the sky of beauty, pride grows
And mercy fails, always like a rock
To the wave of pride, my faith will be
The false hope turns my foot
Delight nor peace do not come to me
And the impious one I adore denies me relief
Out of good mercy: between infinite pain
Between betrayed hope, my faith will live
For fire and for frost, I have no rest
In the port of Heaven, I will find rest
If a mortal blow with a rigid arrow
Wounded my heart, changing my fate
With the dart of death, I will heal my heart
If the flame of love never felt
That rigid heart that stole my heart
If the cruel beauty denies mercy
That captivated the soul, it will be that sorrowful
Repentant and languishing, sighing one day
