Mandulinata a Napule
Bruno Venturini
Mandolin Serenade in Naples
Summer night! shining little firefly
Sings a song and smells of sea grass.
I want words more than burning love,
I want words more gentle and dear
To say "I care about you" to those who hear me.
But of the words more carnal and sweet,
I choose only three: "I care about you."
Beautiful, in your heart I know what you hold,
Who’s in my heart, you know too.
For the sea of Naples, what harmony!
Rising to the sky and the sky hears,
All the stars, my voice.
Voice, that holds,
This love makes.
Summer night! the houses are asleep
And the sky, over the sea, has spread a scene.
Stay in my arms, innocent are these kisses.
Beautiful, tonight, I’m your brother and husband.
Tonight, love and God are one thing.
Sing, and from sleep Naples awakens,
Laughing are the mouths that have kissed.
All the sighs of all the lovers
Sigh tonight, around you.
For the sea of Naples, what harmony.
Rising to the sky and, the sky, hears,
All the stars, my voice.
Voice, that holds,
This love makes.
